Cobble Stone.

Cobbles are the oldest paving idea there is and still the most durable one for vehicle traffic. These are natural Egyptian stone, tumbled so the edges soften and the faces take on a worn character before they are ever laid.

That pre-worn quality is the practical argument. Dust and heat punish smooth exterior floors, and a polished or honed surface outdoors shows every mark it collects; a tumbled cobble field starts worn, so what would read as damage on a smooth floor reads as patina here.

Use it for driveways, courtyards, garden paths, tree surrounds and the transition zones where a building meets its landscape. It also solves a problem no large-format stone can: an irregular field absorbs level changes and awkward geometry that would force cuts and mitres in a slab layout.
